The culture of Africa is diverse, consisting of a mixture of tribes that have their own unique characteristics. I wanted to create a series of paintings based on African women in their rural environment.
Painted on a cotton canvas using acrylic medium, set against a background of yellow ochre which depicts the intensity of the warm climate and the blue represents the cascading waterfall, blended in with brown, red, dark blue thick and think gestural lines.
Woman dressed in vibrant and bold colours. Her delicate neck carries a heavy beaded necklace embracing her breasts and the long skirt like garment is fully painted in lime green and lemon yellow.
Standing behind her colourful designed overflowing pots, full of water and assortments of beads. She carries an empty pot gently placed over her head, painted in soft blue with dark blue and grey lines to emphasis the shape and the roundness of the clay pot.
Colourful and warming style of African cultural women dressed in traditional clothing using bold colours, set against a background of yellow ochre blended with brown and red, to represent the warm climate.
Cotton canvas, brushes round and flat, artist quality acrylic paint, colours used yellow ochre, lemon yellow, brown, green, blue, titanium white, brilliant red, burnt sienna and black.
